Replacement Acoustic Bridge Saddle

An interesting problem, it came with no bridge saddle.  The trouble there is not having a starting point with the setup.  However, got to start somewhere, so a bone blank.  Cut if first to roughly the right length.

It’s also a little thick so it needs sanding down a little…

So there’s the staring point.

With a long steel rule on the fretboard that would be a completely flat action so add in twice what you want as an action at the 12th fret and a little more spare….

The top needs a curve to match the curvature of the fretboard.

about like that…

With the strings back and at full tension now I can work out exactly how high the action is and therefore how much to take off the saddle….

about that much…..

A nice flat and square bottom…

Double checking before I go much further…

Next a slant to correctly compensate the intonation, about like that should do it…

And there it is, the finished saddle.

in place…
