Broken Jazzmaster Nut

A fairly simple repair although setting up some guitars is a little more difficult… The bottom of the nut blank didn’t quite fit the slot.  It’s a 7½” radius rather than the 10″ of the fretboard. While the strings are off it’s always worth giving the fretboard a good clean and oil. Here is the […]

Vintage Fret Dress

A great looking guitar, now plays as good as it looks… There was nothing very wrong with it, just some slightly uneven frets and a rather high action. First mask off the fretboard and body to protect it… and level the fret tops. Once the frets are re-shaped and polished I put the strings back […]

Custom Built Spanish – 7th update

Before I fit the fretboard I need to put a finish on the body.  I’ve going for Danish Oil… Doesn’t look too bad.  A couple more coats and it should be good. With that done I glued the fretboard in place… More to follow, hopefully not too much mind you, but keep watching…. To see […]

Yamaha Pacifica setup

How well does your guitar play?  This one was almost impossible.  However all it needed was a little TLC and it’s a lot better… The frets are also a little uneven, but that’s a whole other job. The set in the neck is huge! You could drive a coach and horses under there! Not sure […]

Hohner Rockwood Re-build, 4th update

With a new neck plate I was able to re-fit the neck.  At least it looks like a Guitar again. With the strings fitted I reset the neck set. with a tweek of the truss-rod. Reset the action height. and lastly the intonation. At long last, all back together. To see the project from the […]

BC Rich Bass

The new blank is a little thin but at least it’s long enough. In fact a little too long so I’ll have to take a little off the end. It doesn’t have slots marked so I need to mark them myself….. and start the slots. While the strings are off I gave the fretboard a […]

Hohner Rockwood Re-build, 3rd update

I was going to put the old frets back but they are rather worn so I thought I may as well put new ones in. Clean out the fret slots, although they are already a little deep for the tangs on the new wire. Bend the fret wire into a curve… and tap it into […]

Tremol-No

What a great idea.  A real easy way to lock your trem’ in place. It just replaces the claw for the trem’ springs and has a rod that locks into the trem’ block. The thumb wheels can either lock the trem’ or be loosened off to allow the trem’ to move as normal.

Fender Stratocaster, pickup switch

I do love these, they look just fantastic. This one just has a slight problem with the pickup switch.  A slightly dry contact somewhere leading to an intermittent contact.  Switch cleaner can sometimes do the trick but ultimately the only guaranteed way is to replace it…  The new one in place… That should do the […]

Custom Built Spanish 6th update

As it was a little quiet last week I did a little more on the Spanish. I’ve put some fret markers on the side of the fretboard.  Using the pillar drill to drill the holes. The markers come as a long thin plastic rod.  Glue the end into the holes… and cut it just slightly […]
